One Room Challenge

Bohofrisco | Spring 2020 – One Room Challenge | Week 2!

When we left off, I had put together a mood board and had a general idea of where things were headed. Boy did I under-estimate how quickly time would pass! I now both see the pressure of this challenge, and the benefit. Because, let’s be honest, this is exactly how things have been going for me for this bedroom… think about a project and ponder on it forever, but never take action!

So, let me get down to the real, hard truths first. I did nothing. I let the entire week pass and I had not purchased a single new thing or made any plans. When Thursday came around to post, there I was staring at a blank screen. Should I just post another old picture of the room? Should I take more things out of it and show it in a worse state?? I honestly didn’t know. Then Friday came and went and now here we are on Sunday and I’m scrambling. I feel overwhelmed by the project, and somehow like a failure even though it’s only week 2!!

These challenges, the posting schedule, the home decor community, these things are excellent tools for motivation and encouragement. I let it fill me with dread. Would my project be as good as everyone else’s? Does anyone care about what I have to say? Can I take it all back?

But, now, for the positive part, I realize that this is exactly what some of you need to hear (um because I NEED TO HEAR IT). This is a difficult challenge, but making over a room has set backs and sharing those is how we learn from our mistakes and grow… and through the ORC and your encouragement… how I will get it done!!!! It only has to be a room that we love. It doesn’t have to be forever or permanent and if we make mistakes, we will make them openly and grow from them. Better to make a mistake on my own bedroom where I have full control to make changes and be honest, than on someone else’s space! (Sigh, the someday distant dream!)

Let’s start with what we still need and see what we can get done!

  1. The RUG CAME! Check out THIS POST for a detailed review of the new rug. Shout out to Revival Rugs for the gifted one-of-a-kind vintage rug.
I have uploaded the picture to Procreate and placed the rug in the room!

From last week’s list of things to do:

  • Order Supplies
    • Paint for the walls
    • Tools to paint if anything needs replacing (drop cloth, new roller, etc.)
    • Stencil? Sample Spoon flower Wallpaper? for side project
    • Fabric paint, Fabric medium, 2” brush for headboard makeover
  • Order products
    • Updated Textiles (Sheets, etc.)
    • Wall Hanging
    • Curtains
    • Curtain Rod
    • Rug [Revival Rugs]
    • Throw Pillows & Details

I realized I just wasn’t loving the color plan and it was keeping me from moving forward on any one project. I decided to make a color palette based on the rug that we know we love.

Color palette built from the rug!!

Now, using this color palette I feel more ready to actually choose paint and options for each of the updates I want to do! WHEW. I feel so much better just feeling like there is a plan!

Alright – the first project I’m going to work on is painting my headboard. I just ordered the supplies and they should be here this week. I’m also going to DIY my nightstand. These are the two DIY projects I hope will work out and allow me to give new life to pieces that I really have not loved in a while.

Here’s the inspiration for the nightstand makeover:

Inpsiration night stand (for $400 no thanks!)
Our current nightstand, Ikea, Malm

Let’s see how that’s going to work out! I also need a plan for next week, assuming the supplies don’t come I don’t want to be caught panicking again, haha. Thanks for everyone who stuck in there and I have so much respect for those of you that are meeting your ORC challenge goals right now! We can do this!

Upcoming posting schedule:

  • Week 3 – May 21st
  • Week 4 – May 28th
  • Week 5 – June 4th
  • Week 6 – June 11th
  • Week 7 – June 18th
  • Week 8 – June 25 – July 1st

Be sure to check out the other guests and the main featured accounts on the official One Room Challenge page.

Til next week!

Amanda

  1. I LOVE the color palette you are working with! The rug sets the right tone in that room. Now, you’ve got me intrigued by this nightstand makeover. Excited to see!
