Bohofrisco | Spring 2020 – One Room Challenge | Week 3!

Let’s get right to it, this week we tackled the nightstand with mixed results and we got some new beautiful artwork for the room! We have had a hand-me-down Ikea, Malm dresser for a couple of years now. It’s functional and serves a purpose, but there’s nothing really attractive about it. As a result, I wanted to give it a new life!

But first, let’s see the hanging art I just got above the night stand!!

The piece I got is a unique terracotta design is an original created by Diandra. She creates these beautiful handmade pieces in several amazing designs.

Diandra says, “My goal is to inspire your space with beautifully hand crafted clay art to encourage creativity and be in an environment in which you’re allowed to openly express yourself. Decorating is for those who want their homes full of life, culture, and interesting items for all the world to see.I am confident you will love each and every Terracotta Art piece you bring into your home. I am so grateful for the chance to make for you. Thank you for supporting small business! Together we can create a home that’s earthy and cozy. ✌🏽🌱🧡”

I am obsessed with her work, check it out!

This is the Apline 1 design

This artwork is AMAZING, and I know you will find something you love (and the prices are insanely reasonable!).

For the nightstand, I pulled out the drawers and I started with a coat of chalk paint, Rust-o-leum’s Coast Blue, matte chalk paint. The great thing about this paint is not needing a primer to put it on. I highly recommend it for a project that needs a quick update.

Before image of the space and nightstand. Very dark, no character at all.

As you can see the original nightstand is quite boring, especially for our colorful bohemian space that we are creating! I found some inspiration pictures online. Fortunately, Michael’s had a stencil that matched my design and I purchased it! Link to the stencil: https://www.michaels.com/diy-home-bone-inlay-laser-stencil-set-by-artminds/10478855.html.

Here are the supplies I used for this project.
Process shot using the stencil.

The stencil is always harder than I think it’s going to be. Also I am impatient and don’t like to wait for it to dry. Mostly, they seem easy and they’re only somewhat time saving because you really have to take your time if you’re going to make it look great.

Finished product!

So, what do you think?! This is a project that was a long time coming. There was a lot of feedback on my instagram and people aren’t sure they love it. But, I think it’s going to work great in the final room design and I think it’s undeniable that it’s improved from the before image.

Those are the updates for Week 3! Next week we’ll be working on repainting the upholstered bed!
